Many people seem to think the only thing that falls out of the sky are cures for diseases. Well, if you think NASA is expensive, try extinction. Ultimately, NASA's job isn't to plant miniature American flags on Mars, it's to get enough experience working in space so that when a B.F.R. finally shows up (that's a "Big Rock" for you non-spacewonks) we have options beyond just staring up at the teevee slack-jawed until it hits. But heck, what do we know? Maybe dumb luck will save us.
